Dr. Kamrul joined the Bangladesh Army in 1991 as a General Duty Medical Officer and began his career in ophthalmology in 1999. He served in various Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) and was deputed to Kuwait Armed Forces (2004–2007), working at Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Armed Forces Hospital.
Before retirement, he served more than five years as Adviser in Ophthalmology at CMH Dhaka and as Professor & Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Armed Forces Medical College, Dhaka.
